PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEI'd like to wish everyone a happy new year on behalf of Thread Group. After a remarkable year for the IoT industry in 2022, which included the release of Thread 1.3.0, Matter 1.0, the progress of KNX IoT and DALI+ with Thread, and most importantly hundreds of products supporting Matter 1.0, many of which include Thread, Thread Group has eagerly kicked off 2023 with more product certifications and embarked on the next set of use cases as part of the Thread roadmap. As part of Thread Group's roadmap process, one specific use case that has been evaluated over the last 2+ years is extended range. Member companies collaborated on defining the market requirements for this use case. Thread Group then conducted a comprehensive evaluation of available technologies, including a variety of Sub-GHz options, as well as Thread, and concluded that Thread's self-configuring 2.4 GHz mesh remains the best technology for automation in residential and commercial buildings including this extended range use case. Thread's self-configuring 2.4 GHz mesh provides an unrivaled combination of high reliability, low power consumption, low cost, and long range by utilizing Thread nodes that also function as Thread mesh extenders. That being said, Thread Group will continue to drive a roadmap driven by member-defined and supported use cases. Our membership has steadily increased so far this year and is now 140 members strong. I would like to welcome Champon (Onvis), ebm-papst neo, FloLogic, Fluidd Technology, GL Technologies (Hong Kong), Himoace, Mobilus, Nuki Home Solutions, Qrio, Renesas, and Warema who have joined us since December of 2022. Our next member meeting is scheduled for April 25-27, 2023, in Philadelphia. I'm excited to meet many of you there, and I'm looking forward to our interactions and collaboration. Best Regards,
Vividh Siddha |
