2023 Reflections: A Look Back at Key Milestones and Recognizing Member Contributions

By Sujata Neidig, VP of Marketing for Thread Group / Director of Wireless Connectivity Marketing & Standards for NXP

As 2023 is coming to a close, we are proud to reflect on all of the accomplishments and milestones Thread has achieved throughout the year. Thread Group is proud to say we are ending the year with a remarkable 170 member companies! From our attendance at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in January, all the way to hosting our 22nd Members Meeting in Budapest, Hungary at the end of October and everything in between, Thread Group is proud of what this year has brought to us, and eager to see what 2024 will bring!;

This year was a remarkable year for Thread Group marked by many significant achievements. As we glance back at 2023, here are a few of our major milestones and highlights.

Industry Event Presence: Thread Group kicked off 2023 with a presence at the CES where we amplified member demos, met with press, and participated in multiple panel sessions. Throughout the year we continued to attend industry events such as IFA Berlin, CEDIA in Denver, and International Internet of Things Expo in Shanghai, China. You can find us back at these events in the coming year- stay tuned!

Educating Retailers & Installers: The release of the Matter Channel Training Kit in collaboration with CSA was a major highlight for Thread Group. The kit provides a comprehensive resource of all things Matter and has greatly contributed to the education of the retail market. Explore here for more details about our Matter Channel Training Kit.

Successful Thread Group Member Meetings: In 2023, Thread Group held two successful Members Meetings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Budapest, Hungary. Here, our members met to continue to help shape the future of IoT through the development and adoption of Thread and also defined several use cases that will be implemented in the next version of the Thread specification. Our next Members Meeting will be held on April 24-26, 2024, in Toronto, Canada and we look forward to seeing our members there!

Hear From Thread Members: We’ve spotlighted many of our members who give their first-hand experiences on what makes Thread Group membership unique and how membership has impacted their companies. Be sure to check out our member testimonial videos from Gabe Kassel, Amazon, Nathan Dyck, Nanoleaf, Klaus Waechter, Siemens, Sujata Neidig, NXP, and Ann Olivo, Silicon Labs

China Working Group Growth: In 2023, our China Marketing Working Group has gained considerable momentum. Along with their attendance at the International Internet of Things Expo this year, they have also made significant strides engaging the China market on WeChat and continue to see increases in subscribers. Join Thread Group on WeChat here.

Significant Growth in Certified Products: We are so excited to announce that Thread Group has reached a milestone of over 300 Thread Certified products and components! Key Thread Members, including Espressif, NXP, Eve, Google, TUO, Netatmo, Tuya, Qingping, and others, introduced Thread certified end products to the market, expanding the range of Thread-based smart home offerings. The media and market’s response to these new products were enthusiastic, highlighting their reliability, flexibility, and efficiency!

Thread Group Members Recognized
As a member-driven organization, Thread Group relies on its members to drive the work of its committees. At the recent Members Meeting in October 2023, Thread Group recognized five individuals who have made significant contributions to various Thread Group committees and activities over the past year.

We sincerely appreciate all of our members who have given their time to our organization and to the industry to promote the Thread mission!

Wishing you a Happy New Year
We will take this positive momentum and carry it into 2024 with a focus on continuing to shape the future of IoT and the adoption of Thread in smart homes and buildings.

Of course, everything we do is member-driven, and if you are heavily involved with Thread Group activities – we are grateful for your time, effort, and interest in working alongside our exceptional industry players. If you would like to get involved (or more involved) – there is always a seat open for you to participate and contribute at any level you’re comfortable with!

From all of us at Thread Group, we wish you a peaceful holiday season and a fantastic start to the new year.
